Deck Refinishing That Brings Your Outdoor Space Back to Life
A neglected deck doesn't just look bad. It becomes a liability. Splintering boards, slippery algae growth, fading finish, and soft spots from moisture damage. It all adds up fast. Full deck refinishing restores your deck's appearance, safety, and structural integrity. N&N Painting delivers complete deck restoration across Southwest Florida.
Our deck refinishing process is thorough. We start with a pressure wash using specialized wood cleaning solutions that lift dirt, mildew, and grayed wood fibers without damaging the wood. For decks with failing stain or paint, we strip the old finish completely. No layering over a bad foundation. After cleaning, we apply a wood brightener to restore the natural pH and open the grain for stain absorption.
Once the deck is clean and dry, we sand as needed. Rough spots, splinters, raised grain. All smoothed out. On hardwood decks (the ipe and cumaru installations common in Pelican Bay, Bonita Bay, and Naples waterfront properties), we sand the entire surface to restore the fresh, tight-grained appearance these premium woods are known for. The sanding dust gets cleaned completely before any stain goes on.
We finish with a premium stain or sealer application, chosen specifically for your wood species and sun exposure. Horizontal deck surfaces in Southwest Florida take more abuse than almost any other wood surface: direct UV, standing water, foot traffic, pool chemicals, and salt air near the coast. We use products with UV inhibitors, mildewcides, and water repellents rated for these conditions. Most decks get two coats.
We refinish all types of decks. Pressure-treated pine in Estero and Golden Gate neighborhoods. Exotic hardwoods in luxury Naples estates. Composite decking throughout new developments in Ave Maria and Bonita Springs. Composite decks may seem maintenance-free, but they still benefit from professional cleaning and can be restored with specialized products when they fade or stain.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does deck refinishing take?
Most residential decks take 2-4 days depending on size, condition, and weather. Larger decks or those needing full stripping may take longer. We'll provide an exact timeline at your estimate.
Can you refinish a composite deck?
Yes. While composite doesn't need staining, it can be professionally cleaned and restored using specialized products that address fading, staining, and mold growth.
How long before I can use my deck after refinishing?
Typically 24-48 hours for foot traffic and 72 hours for furniture placement. Exact times depend on the product used and weather conditions.
Is it worth refinishing or should I replace my deck?
If the structural framing and most boards are sound, refinishing is almost always more cost-effective. We'll do an honest assessment, and if boards need replacing, we can handle that as part of the project.
